Lake Vitek
Lake Vitek was named in honor of founding member and past president Joseph Vitek, a lifelong supporter of the club. The island at its center, Iles Isle, recognizes another past president and life member, Ed Iles.
Both men were passionate conservationists who dedicated themselves to protecting Michigan’s natural resources. Today, the 20-acre lake, with depths reaching 7–8 feet, continues to reflect its legacy.
Lake Vitek is open for boating, kayaking, dog training, and fishing. Anglers will find a variety of species including bass, bluegill, crappie, and catfish throughout the year.
All fishing is catch-and-release to ensure everyone has the chance to enjoy the lake. Access points include a separate gate on Gleaner Road, a hiking trail near the main gate, and a picnic area by the pistol range parking lot.
Saginaw Field & Stream Club maintains a scenic trail system that winds around much of Lake Vitek, offering members and guests a peaceful way to experience the outdoors. The paths are ideal for walking, hiking, and simply enjoying nature in every season. Along the way, it’s common to spot deer, waterfowl, and a wide variety of songbirds, making the trails a favorite for wildlife enthusiasts and families alike.
Camping is welcome for Saginaw Field & Stream Club members, with a small donation encouraged to help maintain the grounds. To protect the natural setting, campers are asked to use designated fire pits and leave the area clean for others to enjoy. Basic amenities, including electrical hookups and porta-johns, are available to make your stay more comfortable.
By following these guidelines, members help preserve the beauty of Lake Vitek and ensure it remains a safe, enjoyable space for future generations.
Each summer, Lake Vitek comes alive with the excitement of the Saginaw Bay R/C Boat Club races. These high-powered model boats skim across the water at impressive speeds, creating a unique spectacle for both participants and spectators.
Guests are always welcome to watch, and race days can often be heard around the grounds as the boats roar to life.
Be sure to check the club calendar for scheduled events, or simply stop by when the races are underway. For more details about the club and upcoming competitions, visit saginawrcboats.com.
